L'attore Don Cheadle sarà il protagonista e il regista del biopic sulla vita di Miles Davis, un progetto nato nel 2007 e che con grande difficoltà sta andando avanti, il film infatti ha dovuto anche cambiare lo sceneggiatore perchè il precedente script non era gradito a Cheadle.
In una intervista il nipote di Davis, Vince Wilburn Jr., ha dichiarato "Una volta che la sceneggiatura sarà Ok, andremo alla produzione."
Per la colonna sonora del film è stato scelto Herbie Hancock, una scelta quanto mai adeguata considerando che il pianista ha suonato a lungo con Davis.
Questo film sembra un progetto molto personale di Cheadle, grande fan di Davis sin dall'infanzia e che per l'occasione debutta anche alla regia di un film. L'attore è anche un bravo sassofonista jazz e con questo film cerca di produrre un biopic molto accurato.
A proposito del progetto Cheadle ha detto: “It’s been a long time coming, but we’re working on the script right now. I think it will happen. I love Miles, but you have to take everything he says with a grain of salt. He would tell a long story, and someone would go, ‘That’s amazing. Did that happen?’ He’d reply, ‘I don’t f—ing know. You figure it out.’ He wasn’t interested in what you thought about him. He was like, ‘I’m about the music. Deal with that.’ Capturing the essence of that man is a challenge.”
